2018 Ford Edge SEL Sport Package Revealed

Buyers of the 2018 Ford Edge SEL will be able to pump up the profile of their distinctive midsize crossover starting this fall when the new Sport Appearance Package goes on sale. Like similar kits available for the Escape and Explorer, the Sport Appearance Package for the 2018 Edge adds a selection of cosmetic touches for the mid-range SEL models, whether they’re fitted with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder or optional 3.5 V6.

The exterior tweaks in the Edge SEL bring blacked-out headlamp bezels and side window trim set off with Magnetic Metallic-painted finish in the grille surround, front/rear skidplates, mirrors caps and rear spoiler as well as on the 10-spoke/19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the SEL Sport Appearance Package has new Mayan Gray fabric seat upholstery with Umber Miko perforated sueded-cloth inserts and Umber contrast stitching. The Umber theme carries to the “Edge” logo the white carpets while the dash features a distinctive Copper Sands applique.

2017 Ford F-150 Wins A Top Green Vehicle Award From AAA

The 2017 Ford F-150 has won a “Top Green Vehicle” award in the pickup truck category from the AAA Green Car Guide, owing to its best-in-class fuel economy and other virtues. In particular, AAA likes the F-150 XLT 4×2 with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which is EPA-estimated at 22 miles per gallon in mixed driving.

“Many drivers need the flexibility of a larger vehicle, but still want to make a green choice,” says Megan McKernan, who is Manager at the Automotive Research Center at the Automobile Club of Southern California – the largest AAA affiliate by membership. “AAA awarded the Ford F-150 XLT the 2017 pickup category winner in the AAA Green Car Guide for its best-in-class fuel economy, great visibility, spacious interior and exceptional handling.”

Of course, the Ford F-150 is set to grow even more efficient next year, as the entire range gains Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission, and a diesel engine is introduced. Later, an electric-hybrid model will follow.

The 2017 Ford GT

The Ford GT finally shows us what it can do to our internal organs when it turns a wheel under its own power.

Lap after lap, Scott Maxwell gnaws deeper into the curbing. By drawing a straighter line through a shallow chicane on the road course that lies in the shadow of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Canadian pro driver with class wins at Sebring, Daytona, and Le Mans is searching for—and finding—more speed. What started as a nibble is now a chomp as he rides to the top of the red-and-white candy cane on his fourth lap. The 2017 Ford GT he’s piloting, the car in which I’m riding shotgun, swallows it whole.

The GT skates over the pavement, clearing it by just 2.8 inches in its ground-sucking Track mode, when the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are sunk into the wheel wells and the GT looks as if it has all the suspension travel of a bobsled. Yet this carbon-fiber dart from Dearborn never threatens to lose traction, to pitch left, or to unsettle as it leaps off the curbs. It soaks up the input gracefully, presses rubber into earth, and rockets ahead. “I kept expecting that curb to launch us,” Maxwell says during the cool-down lap. “But the car just takes it.”

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Review: Uncompromising track star

Ford should make you sign a contract committing to go to the track every weekend before they’ll sell you a 2017 Shelby GT350. This 5.2-liter V8 Mustang may be related to the affordable coupe that bears the same nameplate but, by the time Ford Performance is through, it’s a very distant cousin. To be worthy of the rearing snake badge, the GT350 has to be more than special: it has to be capable of putting fear into Porsches.

It sure looks the part. The Shelby team takes the Mustang’s Coke-bottle body and gives it an aggressive makeover, with new front fenders, functional fender vents, a vent in the bulging aluminum hood, a rear spoiler, and a rear valance with integrated diffuser, among other changes. Indeed, it all works so well, it’s at the heart of the inspiration for the 2018 Mustang’s design refresh. Nonetheless, there’s no mistaking the differences between the regular car and the GT350, even in the fairly low-key Ruby Red Metallic paint of this particular example.

Inside, the key parts get the most polish. The steering wheel is wrapped in tactile, grippy Alcantara, while the gearshift knob is a palm-filling aluminum ball. Standard-fit racing seats – complete with GT350 headrest stitching – are as supportive as you’d hope, and finished in slip-resistant cloth and suede rather than leather. My slouching passenger complained of not being able to find an especially comfortable backrest angle, but from behind the wheel I had no complaints.
